Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of StarringYou (the “Service”), operated by Kailex Patel, doing business as StarringYou (“we,” “us,” or “Company”). By placing an order or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy and Return & Refund Policy, which are incorporated by reference.

1. The Service

StarringYou lets you create a personalized comic book starring a real person you choose (the “Hero”). You answer questions about the Hero and upload a photo of them; we use that information, together with artificial intelligence, to write a story and illustrate it. The finished book is available as a digital download and/or a printed book shipped to an address you provide, depending on what you order.

2. Who Can Use the Service

You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of legal majority where you live) to place an order. You may create a book about someone else — a partner, friend, relative, or child — but by doing so you confirm that you are an adult placing the order on your own behalf.

3. AI-Generated Content

The story text is generated using Anthropic's Claude models; the illustrations are generated using Google's Gemini models. This means every book is created by artificial intelligence based on the information and photo you provide, and — like any AI-generated content — it may not perfectly match your expectations, may contain minor inconsistencies, and will not be an exact photographic likeness of the Hero. We run an automated quality check and, unless you're told otherwise, a human review before a physical book is sent to print, but we do not guarantee the Output will be free of imperfections inherent to AI-generated art and text.

4. Photos and Personal Details You Provide

By uploading a photo or personal details about the Hero, you represent and warrant that:

• you own the photo or have the right to use and share it;
• you have the consent of the person depicted to use their photo and likeness to create a personalized book (or, if the Hero is a minor, you are their parent or legal guardian, or have that parent or guardian's consent); and
• the photo and details you provide do not depict nudity, violence, illegal activity, or anything else that would be inappropriate for a personalized gift.

You grant us a license to use the photo and details you provide solely to generate, produce, quality-check, print, and ship your book (including sending them to the third-party AI, print, and email providers listed in our Privacy Policy). We will not use your photo or the finished book in our own marketing without asking you first.

5. Orders, Pricing, and Payment

Prices are shown at checkout in U.S. dollars and are charged via our payment processor, Stripe, at the time you place your order. We do not see or store your full card details. Generation of your book begins as soon as payment is confirmed — see our Return & Refund Policy for what that means for cancellations and refunds.

6. Shipping and Delivery

Printed books are produced and shipped by a third-party print partner. Delivery times shown on the Service are estimates, not guarantees, and we are not responsible for delays caused by the print partner, shipping carrier, customs, or events outside our control. Digital books are delivered by email/download link and typically available much sooner than printed copies.

7. Intellectual Property

We own the StarringYou platform, website, and underlying technology. Subject to the license you grant us in Section 4, and subject to the terms of the underlying AI providers, you may keep, print, and share the personalized book you purchase for personal, non-commercial use. You may not resell, mass-distribute, or claim authorship of the underlying platform or technology.

8. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to use the Service to:

• upload a photo or details about someone without the rights or consent described in Section 4;
• generate content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or infringes another person's rights;
• attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service; or
• use the Service for any commercial resale purpose without our written permission.

We may refuse, cancel, or remove any order or content that we believe, in our discretion, violates these Terms.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE AND EVERY BOOK IT PRODUCES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL BE ACCURATE, ERROR-FREE, OR MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE ORDER GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
