Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Kailex Patel, doing business as StarringYou (“we,” “us,” or “Company”), collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and order a personalized comic book.

1. Information We Collect

• Contact and order details: your name, email address, shipping address, and phone number (the phone number is required by our shipping carrier for physical orders).
• Personalization details: whatever you tell us about the Hero — their name, personality, hobbies, inside jokes, and similar free-text answers — which we use as raw material for the AI-generated story.
• Photos you upload: to illustrate the Hero, you upload a photo of them. Because a photo can identify a specific person, we treat it as sensitive information and only use it to generate your book — see Section 3.
• Payment information: handled entirely by our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• Technical information: standard things like IP address and browser/device information, collected automatically when you visit our site.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information above to:

• generate, quality-check, produce, and ship your personalized book;
• process payment and send order/shipping updates;
• respond to support requests; and
• detect fraud and keep the Service secure.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your photo or order details for advertising.

3. How We Share Information — and With Whom

Creating your book requires sending some of your information to a small number of specialized third-party services, each only for the purpose described:

• Anthropic (Claude API) — receives the personalization details you provide, to write the story text.
• Google (Gemini API) — receives the Hero's photo and story details, to generate the illustrations.
• Lulu Press — receives the finished book files and the recipient's shipping address, to print and ship physical orders.
• Stripe — receives your payment and billing details, to process payment.
• Resend — receives your email address, to send order and shipping emails.
• Railway — our infrastructure host, which stores order data and uploaded/generated files on our behalf.

To our knowledge, as of the date of this policy, Anthropic's and Google's commercial API terms both state that data submitted through their paid APIs is not used to train their general-purpose models. We otherwise only share information as required to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.

4. Data Retention

We keep uploaded photos and generated art/PDFs for as long as needed to fulfill your order and to let you re-download a digital book or reorder a physical one, and we keep order records as needed for accounting and legal purposes. You can ask us to delete your photo or personal information at any time — see Section 7.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@starringyoucomics.com. Note that deleting your photo or order details may make it impossible for us to re-deliver or reprint your book.

6. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. You may use the Service to create a book about a child (for example, a parent creating a book for their own kid) — if you do, you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian, or have their consent to upload the child's photo.

7. Cookies

We use only the cookies/local storage strictly necessary to run the Service (for example, keeping your admin login session, or remembering your place in the book-creation wizard). We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International Users

We operate from the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision.
